First of all, endometriosis is among the most common causes of female infertility, with approximately 5 million women in the United States affected by endometriosis every year. The health condition involves the growth and build up of excess tissue outside of a woman’s uterus that can then latch onto the fallopian tubes, ovaries, and the wall of the uterus. This can result in infertility and extreme pain in the abdominal area as well.

Treating endometriosis means using either non-surgical therapies or surgical therapies to achieve the desired ends. For one, women with endometriosis may be given hormone treatments of some kind, which may be able to slow down the progress of the endometriosis or halt the endometriosis entirely. Some hormones that may be administered will help monitor and maintain certain levels of estrogen production, which will keep growth of this endometrial tissue in check.

If hormone treatments are not a good option, the surgical treatments may be used instead. This will be performed in order to remove excess tissue and correct any problems with the uterus and other reproductive organs that occurred as a result of the endometriosis.
