Gestational Surrogacy for Straight and Gay Couples in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland

Gay and straight couples who cannot have children often rely on a gestational surrogate to carry a child that is biologically related to them. Offering a service not currently provided by fertility clinics in the UK, IVF New Jersey helps these couples through the surrogacy process, complying with all UK surrogacy laws, to give them the opportunity to expand their families. To see if gestational surrogacy is right for you, contact IVF New Jersey today.

What is Surrogacy?

Couples who cannot sustain a pregnancy due to an unhealthy or missing uterus depend on the uterus of another woman to carry the child. Known as surrogacy, it gives couples the opportunity to have a child that is biologically related to them without having to endure the risks associated with pregnancy.

Surrogacy falls into two categories—traditional surrogacy and gestational surrogacy. In traditional surrogacy, sperm from a partner or donor is combined with the egg from the surrogate, making the resulting child biologically related to the male partner and the surrogate. This is an option for couples where the woman cannot produce healthy eggs.

However, in gestational surrogacy the uterus of the carrier is implanted with an embryo comprised of sperm and an egg retrieved from the couple, making it biologically related to the couple instead of to the surrogate. This is an option for couples where the woman can produce healthy eggs, but her uterus cannot sustain a pregnancy due to damage, obstruction, or pregnancy poses a life-threatening risk.

Surrogacy and Legal Issues

Couples who elect to use a surrogate are guided through the legal process by Melissa Brisman, an experienced attorney familiar with surrogacy laws. In a partnership with IVF New Jersey, Ms. Brisman provides couples the legal assistance they need to get through the surrogacy treatment process, from helping to find a carrier to organizing meetings and handling the legal paperwork. She also obtains the court order to place the couples’ names on the child’s birth certificate.
