MR. ERNIE BJORKMAN: Hello, everyone. I’m Ernie Bjorkman, and welcome to the American Health Front. The purpose of our program today is to educate and inform you, the viewer, about treatment options not available in the ever-changing world of medicine.

This is a special Philadelphia edition of American Health Front. Our staff has teamed up with some of the area’s finest physicians and healthcare facilities to explore the fascinating frontiers of today’s healthcare, with reports on new techniques and technologies that could really change your life. So stay with us because there is nothing more important than your health.

Infertility affects about one in every six couples in the United States, and it can be one of the most emotionally troubling and stressful times a couple may face in their life together.

We visited IVF New Jersey and spoke with Board-certified physicians, Dr. Michael Darder and Susan Treiser.

MICHAEL C. DARDER, MD: IVF New Jersey was established in 1990, and since then, we’ve been able to provide the most advanced fertility treatments available, and we’ve helped thousands of patients achieve their dreams of having a baby.

We now have four locations in central New Jersey, and as we’ve grown, we’ve maintained our commitment to provide the most compassionate and warm and personalized care that’s available.

MR. ERNIE BJORKMAN: IVF New Jersey is on the forefront of advanced technology and reproductive endocrinology and fertility treatment.

SUSAN L. TREISER, MD, PHD: The process of IVF, or in vitro fertilization, requires that a woman take fertility medications to try and stimulate her ovaries to produce as many eggs as possible. Those eggs are then retrieved through a minor surgical procedure that is done vaginally under IV sedation here in our own operating room. The eggs are then combined with her husband’s sperm and fertilized in culture and allowed to grow for several days prior to it being transferred back into her uterus.

MR. ERNIE BJORKMAN: IVF New Jersey is one of the few clinics on the East Coast offering egg freezing, which can help women slow down their biological clock.

SUSAN L. TREISER, MD, PHD: In this case, they can actually stop their own biological clock, freeze their eggs now, and then use them at a later date.

MR. ERNIE BJORKMAN: Let’s learn how egg donation and gestational surrogacy play an important role in helping many women.

SUSAN L. TREISER, MD, PHD: We can match young women, between the ages of 20 and 30, with our recipient couples. The eggs are then obtained from these young women, combined with the husband’s sperm, and then transferred into the wife’s uterus.

FEMALE PATIENT: And it was worth every minute of it, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

MR. ERNIE BJORKMAN: IVF New Jersey, making little miracles really come true.
