When you are in need of fertility treatment, you have plenty of options on the table. Fertility treatments are specially designed to meet the unique needs of a couple that is looking to start a family of their own. This may involve in vitro fertilization (IVF), sperm donation, intrauterine insemination, or the use of donor eggs. At our New Jersey IVF center, we will always work our hardest to ensure that you undergo the fertility treatment that is best suited to meet your needs.

In some cases, this means seeking out donor eggs. Donor eggs are used when a woman is not able to produce viable eggs of her own. The egg donor is selected through an involved and rigorous screening procedure that you and your partner will be directly involved in.

So you may be wondering how you choose an egg donor and what information about the egg donor will be made available to you. Our New Jersey egg donation specialists have broken it down as follows.

The most obvious data that will be sought out and shared first is the potential egg donor’s current medical health and medical history. This will be performed to check on the current health of the egg donor to ensure she doesn’t have any infectious diseases or medical conditions that may be passed on. Looking at the potential donor’s family medical history will also be important. A psychological screening will need to be completed to check for any personality disorders or emotional problems that the potential egg donor may have. While these are not always passed on genetically, it is important to check for them regardless.

In addition to those screenings above, you will also looks at the physical characteristics of the potential egg donor and other personality traits. You will be able to look at IQ scores of the potential egg donor, hobbies, interests, eye color, physical fitness, and so on.
